What is Stammering or Stuttering?
Stammering, also known as stuttering, is a speech disorder characterized by repeated sounds or words, interruptions in speech flow, and an uneven rate of speech. According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), stammering affects approximately 5% of children aged 2 to 5, though less than 1% continue to stammer into adulthood.
In most cases, stammering resolves as children grow. However, if stammering begins after the ages of 8 to 10, it is more likely to persist into adulthood.
