What is Stammering or Stuttering?

Stammering, also known as stuttering, is a speech disorder characterized by repeated sounds or words, interruptions in speech flow, and an uneven rate of speech. According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), stammering affects approximately 5% of children aged 2 to 5, though less than 1% continue to stammer into adulthood.

In most cases, stammering resolves as children grow. However, if stammering begins after the ages of 8 to 10, it is more likely to persist into adulthood.

Causes of Stammering

The Emotional Impact of Stammering

For individuals who stammer, the condition can feel frustrating and isolating. Even though they may know they can speak clearly, the stammer can feel uncontrollable, particularly if it stems from unresolved emotional trauma. For instance, childhood experiences where a person felt unable to speak can manifest as stammering in later life.

How Hypnosis Can Help

Stammering, though physical, is often influenced by psychological triggers. Hypnosis is a powerful tool that can address the root causes of stammering, especially in cases of psychogenic stuttering.

Benefits of Hypnotherapy for Stammering:

Under hypnosis, individuals often find that they can speak fluently, as the subconscious barriers contributing to the stammer are temporarily bypassed. Over time, this can help create lasting improvements in speech.

Take the First Step

If you or someone you know is struggling with stammering, hypnotherapy could be a transformative solution. By addressing both the physical and emotional aspects of the condition, hypnosis offers a path to greater confidence and improved communication.
